How We Interview
A guide to Snap Inc. interviews
At Snap, interviews are more than conversations - they’re opportunities to connect, explore, and see how our values come to life. Discover how we approach interviewing and what matters most to us: our mission, our people, and the communities we serve.
Competency-Based Interviewing
Competency-based interviewing is a structured interviewing approach that assesses candidates based on their past experiences, behaviors, and skills in relation to specific requirements for the role.
At Snap, we call these requirements Craft & Value Competencies.
Craft & Values
Interviews will include at least two competencies:
A Snap value & a craft competency.
Values
Behavioral questions are always used to assess Values-Based Competencies.
Craft
Craft Competencies are assessed using either behavioral questions or demonstrations of skill.
S.A.I.L.

Got Questions?
We’ve Got Answers.
Here's what you might be wondering:
Do I need to have my camera on during the interview?
Yes, Snap has a “camera on” policy for virtual interviews. It helps us connect face-to-face and keeps the conversation more natural - very on-brand for us.
How should I dress for my interview?
Be yourself! Our team tends to dress casually, so wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Will there be time for me to ask questions?
Absolutely! We always leave time for you to ask about our teams, culture, or the projects your interviewers are working on. Interviews are a two-way conversation. This is your chance to get to know us, too.
Can I use tools or external resources during my interview?
We want to see your own thought process, so unless specifically told you are allowed, external resources and the use of AI aren’t allowed during interviews. Just bring your problem-solving skills and your unique approach - that’s what we’re most interested in.
Do all interviews happen in one day?
It depends. We’ll work with you and your interviewers to find times that fit everyone’s schedule. Sometimes interviews are grouped into one day; other times, they’re spread out. Either way, we’ll make sure you have plenty of time to prepare.
Do you have to be a Snapchat user to interview?
We encourage you to check out all of our products, but you do not need to be a Snapchat user.
Is Snapchat your only product?
Not at all! Snap is a camera company with a growing family of products and platforms — from AR and Spectacles to Bitmoji and more. You can learn about everything we’re building on our Careers page.
