We’re looking for an Optical Characterisation Engineer to join the Optical Engine Team at Snap Inc!

What you’ll do: 

The Optical Engine Team is responsible for the engineering, manufacture and characterisation of Snap’s AR display platform. The team delivers high-quality processes, instrumentation and analysis to characterise and develop the next generation of AR products. You will: 

  • Design, build and validate optical measurement instrumentation and test stations for the optical characterization of AR devices and subcomponents.

  • Transfer test processes to internal teams and contract manufacturers

  • Scope out and define requirements for external equipment suppliers

  • Gather requirements and develop experimental methodology to establish performance of new components and assemblies. . 

  • Perform instrumentation calibration and validation. 

  • Document processes and work with teams to ensure equipment validation and acceptance is performed.

  • Develop new analysis and processing techniques to better understand and evaluate device performance.

  • Perform root cause analysis of failure mechanisms. 

  • Develop and contribute to common codebases for hardware control and analysis


 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of optical experimental methodology and experience in optical laboratory environment

  • Programming (Python preferably) 

  • Measurement Systems Acceptance processes (GRR, Validation)

  • Data and statistical Analysis (Python, JMP)

  • Equipment control and automation

  • Image processing and the use of standard image processing libraries

  • Documentation using standard cloud office software platforms (MS Office, Google Workspace, Atlassian products)

  • Use of code-sharing and control platforms (Git, Bitbucket etc.)
     

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BSc in Physics, Optics or other relevant engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years experience in optical engineering or PhD in physics, optics or engineering

  • Managing test process with external contract manufacturers

  • Understanding of tolerancing in manufacturing and test processes

  • Experience with mechanical design and rapid prototyping of jigs and fixtures

  • Experience in display testing and image quality evaluation

  • Experience in colorimetry and radiometry

  • Experience in AR/VR systems
