The Spectacles team is pushing the boundaries of technology to bring people closer together in the real world. Our fifth-generation Spectacles, powered by Snap OS, showcase how standalone, see-through AR glasses make playing, learning, and working better together.

We’re looking for a Finite Element Analysis Engineer to join the Spectacles team at Snap Inc!

 What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with a cross-functional hardware team to develop a new class of consumer device.

  • Perform static and dynamic structural simulations using ANSYS Mechanical (preferred) and/or LS-DYNA.

  • Coordinate external resources to perform simulation tasks and testing of physical parts.

  • Partner with key internal stakeholders (Product Design, Optical Engineering, Reliability, etc) to assess the system impact of structural analysis predictions to inform product architecture and roadmap.

  • Work with product design and reliability engineers on evaluation, verification/validation, and design optimization.

  • Recommend design changes/directions to meet product performance requirements.

  • Participate in team brainstorming and new technology development.

  • Develop new simulation tools and capabilities as needed.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Solid modeling practices including static and dynamic structural simulations, fatigue analysis, model validation techniques, and reliability.

  • Knowledge and experience with CAD software. (NX, ProE, Solidworks).

  • Knowledge and experience with ANSYS Mechanica.

  • Knowledge of solid mechanics and strength of materials.

  • Failure modeling of different classes of materials.

  • Testing familiarity using Digital Image Correlation, Universal Testing Machines, and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including documentation.

  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across groups.

  • Self-motivated to identify and close issues.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Materials Science, related field or equivalent years of experience.

  • 3+ years experience as an analyst performing product-level mechanical and structural simulations.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Materials Science, or related field.

  • 3+ years industry experience in consumer electronics as an analyst performing mechanical and structural simulations.

  • Experience in building and calibrating nonlinear material models.

  • Hands-on experience with either optical, magnetic, or multiphysics simulations.

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $142,000-$214,000 annually.


 

Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $135,000-$203,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $121,000-$182,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
