We’re looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support EHS programs across Specs R&D facilities. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role based at our Santa Monica headquarters, with responsibility for supporting R&D EHS programs at domestic and international sites.

In this role, you will partner closely with the EHS team and cross-functional teams—including Specs Engineering, R&D managers, Workplace Services, Security, and Legal—to help ensure regulatory compliance, manage risk, and promote a consistent safety culture across Specs R&D facilities.

This role requires domestic and international travel to support R&D operations, audits, and program implementation.

What you’ll do:

Global R&D EHS Support & Compliance

  • Support the implementation and execution of EHS programs for R&D globally, in alignment with Snap corporate policy and EHS management system requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international EHS regulations governing R&D operations.

  • Support risk assessments for R&D activities, equipment, materials, and new technology introductions.

  • Participate in EHS audits, inspections, and assessments at domestic and international locations, supporting documentation and corrective action tracking.

  • Maintain accurate EHS records, risk registers, and program documentation.

Hazardous Materials, Chemicals, Machine & Lab Safety

  • Support hazardous materials and chemical safety programs, including chemical inventory management, safe handling, storage, labeling, and disposal.

  • Support machine safety and equipment risk management activities, including safeguarding, lockout/tagout program, and safe operation of laboratory and prototype equipment.

  • Assist with implementation and verification of safety controls related to ventilation, fume hoods, local exhaust systems, and other engineering safeguards.

  • Support laser and radiation safety activities, including hazard assessments, control verification, training support, and coordination with subject matter experts as required.

Environmental & Regulatory Support

  • Support environmental compliance activities including waste management, environmental permitting requirements, and coordination with EHS Managers on regulatory submissions and agency interactions.

Training, Culture & Engagement

  • Development and delivery of EHS training for lab users, contractors, and visitors, including lab-specific safety orientation and hazard awareness.

  • Promote a proactive, consistent safety culture across global R&D sites through engagement, communication, and field presence.

  • Partner with lab managers and local site contacts to support safety committees or working groups, as applicable.

Incident Prevention & Continuous Improvement

  • Support incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, applying root cause analysis techniques and tracking corrective actions.

  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement across R&D operations and share lessons learned with stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements and practical application in R&D and, or high-hazard environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead site-level EHS programs and influence senior leaders.

  • Strong risk assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities in complex technical environments.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage regulators, leadership, employees, and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in Environmental Health & Safety.

  • Experience supporting R&D or manufacturing operations.

Preferred Qualifications:
