We’re looking for a Design & Verification Engineer to join the Mechanical Design Team at Snap Inc!

What you’ll do:

  • As part of the Mechanical Engineering team you will design, simulate and test opto-mechanical components and assemblies, relating to optical engines used in AR glasses.

  • Use industry best practices and simulation tools to evaluate designs, test hypotheses before validating through empirical testing. Design and delivery of test stations to conduct DOE’s and assessment of designs and simulations

  • You will work with the engineering team, suppliers and CM’s to ensure components and sub-assemblies are designed to be manufactured to specification and meet the performance criterion.

  • Where applicable own the relationship between design teams, suppliers and CM’s to ensure they have the capability and processes to meet part & assembly technical specifications. This will include international travel to Suppliers & CM’s sites included in Snap’s global supply chain in Europe and Asia.

  • Work closely with other Spectacles teams to gather relevant information and share your knowledge about the parts & assemblies to further improve requirements and specifications, providing vital feedback from the suppliers and CM’s. Ensure data is collected and stored to inform future product designs

  • Work with the wider engineering team and CM’s to assess, monitor and improve Measurement SOP’s to ensure suppliers can meet engineering and manufacturing specifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • CAD experience ideally SolidWorks or NX, ideally on consumer electronics or opto-mechanical products or assemblies

  • Experience in rapid prototyping and assessment of component and sub-assembly designs, ideally including conducting DOE’s

  • Simulation and mathematical modelling skills using industry standard software to assess and iterate part and system design. 

  • Experience producing and manipulating measurement data sets with an ability to distill complex mathematical, simulation and research results into easily understood presentations and reports, suitable for a wide range of audiences including exec team members.

  • Metrology experience using CMM’s, applying metrology process improvement and an understanding of technical requirements of measurement systems to ensure consistent and accurate results.

  • Experience with ASME & ISO drawings, GD&T, FAI & SPC dimensioning and process control to define specific part requirements.

  • Appreciation of consumer goods component manufacturing methods such as injection molding, machining, including optical components for high volume manufacturing

  • Strong background in Mechanical engineering in a high technology research and development environment.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Degree in relevant engineering or scientific subject

  • 5 years of Mechanical Design experience in a relevant industry

  • Qualification and/or significant experience in dimensional Metrology / Six Sigma / Process improvement

Preferred Qualifications/experience:

  • Recognised Metrology Certification / Qualification / CMM Programming

  • Six Sigma certification

We offer a competitive salary range £70,000 - £88,000  which is commensurate with your qualifications and experience and the level of this role.
