The Legal Team is Snap’s dedicated in-house law firm, policy consultant, lobbyist, thought partner, and all-around advisor. This team helps Snap do the right thing the right way, make better decisions, understand and manage risks, and creatively navigate challenges, both external and internal. We partner with Snap team members on a wide array of matters, including privacy, product, IP, commercial transactions, corporate governance, employment, acquisitions, litigation, and policy, and social impact. We’re looking for a Counsel to join the Product Legal team! You’ll be joining a team responsible for all things advertising and monetization at Snap, including our various advertising platforms (including sponsored AR lenses, front end tools for advertisers and back end targeting algorithms), Snapchat+ and other in-app revenue initiatives including ecommerce and creator monetization.
What You’ll Do:
Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to understand and assess new products and technologies, from early development stages through launch.
Review engineering and design specifications for privacy-by-design requirements and legal compliance.
Analyze potential legal and safety risks and regulatory requirements for new products and technologies.
Work with legal and business colleagues to develop regulatory compliance strategies.
Help scale the legal organization by developing innovative processes to support the fast-moving Engineering, Product, and Design teams.
Help draft public-facing descriptions of new products and technologies.
Conduct trainings for engineers and other teams across the company.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Excellent legal and business judgment, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
Strong understanding of laws and experience across a range of legal disciplines (e.g., advertising, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, IP).
Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and a phenomenal teammate, with an ability to accommodate tight deadlines.
Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the company on complex, multifaceted issues.
Experience working directly with engineers and product managers.
Subject matter expert on all things ad tech.
Comfortable mastering new areas of law and tech.
Minimum Qualifications:
J.D. from a nationally recognized law school.
Active membership in at least on state bar.
6+ years of experience practicing law.
Preferred Qualifications:
(a combination of the below items is strongly preferred)
Experience advising clients on domestic and global privacy issues, including ones related to GDPR, DSA, OSA and U.S. consumer protection and privacy laws.
Experience counseling clients on ad tech and targeted advertising legal issues, including compliance with industry guidelines such as Apple’s app store rules (e.g. ATT privacy controls).
Experience with advising on legal issues around ecommerce and online payments processing.
Experience directly advising and working with product teams and engineers to drive outcomes that effectively balance risk mitigations and business objectives.

Compensation
In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
The base salary range for this position is $209,000-$313,000 annually.
