We’re looking for a Manager and Technical hands engineer for our newly formed application development team in India. The People tech team is building the next generation AI powered HR software suite for Snap and looking to accelerate the deployment of these transformative full-stack software solutions. This role is for a hands-on technical leader who can translate product management ideas, stakeholder needs, and People Team priorities into clear product designs, technical specifications, prototypes, executable engineering plans, and consumer-grade solutions.


This person will lead an engineering team while also coding, architecting, and building. They will also be responsible for reviewing PRs and test plans, writing technical design documents, building solutions, and setting engineering standards.


What you’ll do:

  • Translate product management ideas and business concepts into product designs, technical specifications, prototypes, and implementation plans.
  • Partner across Product, People, HR Technology, IT, Security, Legal, Finance, and Engineering teams to understand requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver solutions that support People Team products and services.
  • Lead a team of People Tech engineers or application developers, providing technical direction, prioritization, coaching, and delivery accountability.
  • Contribute directly to the codebase, including production code, reviewing pull requests, and resolving complex technical issues, and building solutions.
  • Architect scalable People Tech solutions that support internal tools, workflow automation, integrations, reporting, AI-enabled experiences, and operational processes.
  • Own the quality of technical design by writing, reviewing, and approving technical design documents and PRs.
  • Advocate for and apply best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, maintainability, cost management, and production support.
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to integrate AI, LLM, and chatbot solutions into People Tech systems where appropriate.
  • Design and develop middleware, APIs, services, and integrations across systems such as Slack, Workday, Jira, Confluence, internal People data services, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Enhance our engineering practices for code quality, CI/CD, documentation, data handling, integration patterns, launch readiness, and operational support.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, delegate effectively, and ensure the team adheres to engineering best practices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with backend services or distributed systems.
  • Experience with database design and data modeling.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, including message queues, pub/sub systems, and asynchronous processing patterns.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, webhooks, middleware, and integrations across multiple systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and deploying services to cloud environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, SQL, and API integration patterns.
  • Experience with Workday integrations, automations, and People data workflows.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Slack, and other cloud-based services.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous product or stakeholder requirements into product designs, technical specs, prototypes, and delivery plans.
  • Ability to lead technical design for complex or cross-system initiatives.
  • Ability to contribute directly to production code while also managing team delivery.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to make pragmatic architecture decisions.
  • Ability to work independently without mature existing infrastructure or support.
  • Proven track record of building applications from scratch.
  • Ability to evaluate and apply AI/LLM capabilities responsibly in internal tools, workflow automation, and employee-facing experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, application development, backend services, enterprise integrations, or related technical roles.
  • 2+ years of experience leading engineers, mentoring technical contributors, or operating as a hands-on technical lead or engineering manager.
  • Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, SQL, APIs, and cloud-based application development.
  • Experience reviewing production code, technical designs, and test plans.
  • Experience translating product requirements or ambiguous stakeholder needs into technical specifications and implementation plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, application development, backend services, enterprise integrations, or related technical roles.
  • 3+ years of experience managing, leading, or mentoring engineers in a hands-on technical leadership role.
  • Experience building People Tech, HR Technology, Workday, internal tools, workflow automation, or enterprise platform solutions.
  • Experience with Spanner and GCP
