We’re looking for a Supplier-based Component Manufacturing Development Engineer to join us in making Augmented Reality products in Spectacles.
What you’ll do:
Develop and oversee the implementation of manufacturing processes for plastics, metals, glass and other materials.
Ensure high-quality manufactured components that meet Spectacles' stringent standards for function and durability. Own and drive manufacturing processes such as polishing (mechanical, chemical, ultrasonic, etc), welding (spot, laser, etc), adhesive bonding, CNC.
Develop new manufacturing technologies and drive a manufacturing technology roadmap.
Optimize manufacturing processes to address cosmetic and functional issues.
Work with Product Development, ID, and Supplier Quality Engineering teams to drive material for sample reviews, in order to align on targets or specs with other cross-functional teams.
Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with suppliers specializing in manufacturing for plastics, metals, and glass.
Troubleshoot and resolve any manufacturing issues that arise during product development and into production.
Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams on manufacturing feasibility.
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in novel materials and in new manufacturing processes.
Expected travel 25-50% within Mainland China, Taiwan, and other Asia-region countries. Occasional travel to the US.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes for a wide range of materials, including plastics, metals, glass, and other engineering substrates.
Proven expertise in a variety of surface finishing techniques, including mechanical polishing, chemical polishing, electrolytic polishing, ultrasonic polishing, and vibratory polishing.
Demonstrated proficiency in joining and bonding technologies, such as laser welding, spot welding, ultrasonic welding, and adhesive bonding, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic precision.
Knowledge of CNC machining, including machine setup, operation, and programming, with a solid understanding of manufacturing tolerances and design-for-manufacturability principles.
Knowledge of injection molding, metal injection molding (MIM), and metal stamping operations, with a strong understanding of process optimization and quality control.
Ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and external suppliers. Ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
Ability to stay updated with industry trends and implement cutting-edge technologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years hands-on manufacturing process development.
Ability to design manufacturing processes from concept to implementation.
Hands on experience with application of GD&T.
Proven track record of creating and managing deep supplier relationships.
Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably in the consumer electronics or technology industry.
Proficient in written and verbal communication in both Mandarin and English
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
10+ years manufacturing process development experience in consumer products.
Proficient in NX, Autocad, or other CAD software.
High volume manufacturing experience with high precision and cosmetic parts.
Six Sigma green or black belt certification.
Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning applications in manufacturing
