AI Assisted Coding

This technical evaluation assesses how candidates use AI as part of their software engineering workflow. Candidates may be asked to clarify requirements, create a plan, use an AI assistant to help generate or revise code, debug issues, and validate the final solution. Strong candidates demonstrate intentional AI usage, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to explain, test, and improve AI-generated output.

System Design

System design interviews will assess the ability to design scalable, maintainable solutions. The problems can range from more junior object-oriented design to designing scalable, resilient, large-scale systems. The system design can range from API design to scaled systems design to full product design.

General Coding

General coding rounds assess core engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, problem modeling, object-oriented development, correctness, and time and space complexity. Candidates should be prepared to write code in the mobile language most relevant to their role, such as Swift or Objective-C for iOS, or Kotlin or Java for Android. These interviews focus on how candidates clarify requirements, reason through edge cases, communicate their approach, and iterate on a working solution.

Mobile Feature and Application Design

This round focuses on designing mobile features or application-level systems. Candidates may be asked to sketch architecture, explain module boundaries, describe data flow, and reason through client-server interactions, storage, threading, lifecycle, performance, reliability, and user experience tradeoffs. This interview is designed to understand how candidates approach building scalable, maintainable mobile applications.

API and SDK Design

For more senior mobile roles, this round may focus on designing APIs, SDKs, or platform components used by other engineers or product teams. Candidates may be asked to reason through external API design, internal component structure, extensibility, performance, reliability, and developer experience. Strong candidates are able to balance clean abstractions with practical implementation tradeoffs.

iOS Domain-Specific Problem Solving

For iOS roles, this round assesses practical iOS development skills and platform understanding. Candidates may be asked to solve problems using iOS tools and frameworks while demonstrating familiarity with Swift, Objective-C, UIKit, SwiftUI, Xcode, application lifecycle, APIs, concurrency, memory management, debugging, and building user interfaces. The focus is on applying iOS knowledge to real implementation and troubleshooting scenarios.

Frontend Coding and Fundamentals

This round will focus on front end fundamentals and basic CS concepts. You can expect to do data structure and algorithm coding questions in a front end language.

Interactivity & Display

The frontend side of the full stack engineering position requires the ability to build interactive and polished user interfaces. This means components should be laid out correctly, pages should account for things like responsive design and dynamic device size, animations, and general ease of use. Ideally, candidates should have a solid understanding of CSS (e.g. flexbox, media queries, etc.) and be able to translate a design into code.

System Design

These system design topics could be general or full stack specific. You will design a scalable web system from end-to-end spanning the front end, the back end, and into the data-serving layer.
